Congratulations to the Wakeland Varsity Baseball Team as they have successfully made it to the Region 5A playoffs.

The boys are currently ranked 284 overall in the state of Texas with 15 wins and 12 losses under their belt.

Our Wolverines have worked hard throughout the district games and their perseverance and dedication has landed them a spot in the playoffs.

“We worked hard in practice and took the drills seriously,” varsity player senior Sam Pyland said.

“We’ve been practicing hard every day working on what we need to work on in practice to make the team better and succeed,” varsity player senior Jack Bittner said.

The Wolverines are ranked 2nd in the 5A Region II District 9 with Lone Star High School in 1st.

“Either Lone Star or Reedy [has been our hardest opponent]. It’s always fun playing against a west side rival,” varsity player senior Zachariah Ray said. “The stands are always chirping and the energy is always up, even if you don’t win, it’s still a lot of fun.”

Last Fri., Apr. 29, the boys beat Lebanon Trail High School with a score of 10-0 in districts.

“I think we have a chance to go really far as long as we all work together as a team,” Bittner said.

The boys are looking forward to what they can do in the playoffs.

“There’s not a lot of teams we are worried about because we don’t play with much fear, but playing Lone Star would be fun in playoffs, and getting another chance against [Hallsville] that knocked us out last year,” Ray said.

On Fri., May 6 at 7 p.m., the boys will be competing against the Denison Yellow Jackets at home base.

On Sat., May 7 at 11 a.m., the boys will be playing the Yellow Jackets again at Denison’s home field.

Tickets to attend the games are available online through Ticket Spicket.
