The holler of the crowd fills the stadium as the Wolverines take the field — but it’s the student section that fuels the fire. With themed outfits, roaring chants and nonstop energy, the Wakeland student section isn’t just part of the crowd — it’s the team’s biggest hype crew.
Since the early days of Wakeland games, the student section has been the spark that spreads from the stands to the field. From basic chants like “Let’s go Wakeland” to raging cheers after every touchdown, the group takes pride in its school spirit — and it shows.
“This year has definitely been different because a lot of the students have been requesting cheers from the cheerleaders, and they communicate with each other,” cheer coach Ms. Steinhauser said.
More than just a group of students, the section’s energy has turned close games into wins, boosting the team’s momentum and helping the whole school celebrate together. Whether the theme is dress-up nights or coordinated chants, these shared experiences unite freshmen and seniors alike.
For upperclassmen and underclassmen, the experience is just as electric. “The Lone Star game (from last year) was really fun because everyone was very hype — like all the classes together and everyone was wearing white,” junior Jack Parrot said.
This year, the student section plans to be bigger, louder and more connected than ever with new chants, louder leaders and creative theme nights.
“Whenever the student section gets really loud it gets us more hype on the field and it makes it more fun,” senior football player Blake Landry said.
Seniors are also working to get underclassmen more involved and included in the action, encouraging everyone to bring their full energy and support.
Whether a freshman or a senior, students are invited to join the Wakeland student section and be part of the tradition.
