Every year, on September 29th, the Texas state fair opens its doors to all residents who are willing to participate in their couple weeks of fun. As the fair opens rides, booths, and several food drives, it delivers any proceeds made back to local educational programs, racial injustice institutions, and Texas infrastructure development.
As well as these benefits, every student in a Texas school district is given free tickets and gets a day off from all school activities to attend the fair. Students also have the opportunity to win up to 3,000 different scholarships and gain grants from different colleges across America, while enjoying a day full of fun and food.
“This school year, I got the opportunity to take the school day off and visit the state fair with FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). I’ve always loved the fair, the rides, the music, the thrill, the food, and the fact we get the chance to take the day off with free intermission is a pretty cool experience,” said sophomore Mia Skirha.
Visiting the fair allowed the students attending to see and learn about the local community in Dallas, the volunteers, and the history of Texas. From farm animals to educational opportunities, the Texas State Fair is not just a theme park; it is an integral part of our community.
