Mother’s Day is a special holiday dedicated to celebrating the incredible women all over the world who have shaped many lives. People do special things to honor their mothers and the sacrifices they have made for their children. As individuals search for creative ways to express their love and gratitude they must wonder; what makes the perfect gift?
The nature of gift-giving lies not always in the material but in the sentimental value of the gift. Whether it’s a handmade ornament, a heartfelt picture, or a shared memory; the true magic of Mother’s Day lies behind the love and appreciation exchanged between families.
“My idea of the perfect Mother’s Day gift is more heartfelt than materialistic. It’s cool to get your Mom a cute little purse or some candy, but what matters more is what comes from your heart,” freshman Maya Aboge said.
Like most gift givers, Maya agrees that the most important things come from the heart and not always from money. However, gifts aren’t always the way to go when it comes to Mother’s Day. Many people show their gratitude through acts of kindness or special experiences.
“Personally, I focus on the little things when it comes to Mother’s Day like making her breakfast in bed or cleaning the house for her,” sophomore Olivia Dominguez said.
Similar to Dominguez, many people focus on the little things that will warm a Mother’s heart on this special day. Whether it’s cooking her a nice breakfast, cleaning up, pampering her, or picking her fresh flowers.
As Mother’s day draws near many would agree that the livelihood of gift-giving lies not in the materialistic things but the things from the heart. When searching for the perfect gift we must remember that the greatest gift of all time is the gift of love. With that in mind; think from the heart rather than the wallet when picking the perfect Mother’s Day gift.
