As the 23-24 school year reaches its end, Wakeland students prepare for summer break while reflecting on the memories they made this year.
“My favorite memory from this school year was watching ‘White Christmas’ open for the first time after working on it for months,” sophomore Avery De La Fuente said.
De La Fuente says being involved with tech theater was her favorite part of the year. She made lots of memories from both extracurricular theater and the tech theater class.
“My favorite class this year was tech theater because I feel like I have a class family. I love my teacher, and I love everything we do in that class,” De La Fuente said.
De La Fuente says that Ms. Cantrell, the tech theater teacher, was her favorite teacher this year.
“Ms. Cantrell was a standout to me. She’s a new teacher but she’s very enthusiastic and I love her energy for what she does,” De La Fuente said.
De La Fuente thinks the school year went by very quickly, and she will miss spending time with her friends at lunch when summer starts. However, she feels relieved that the school year is almost over.
“I feel happy that the school year is coming to an end because I feel like my classes this year were very challenging. I’m ready for a break,” De La Fuente said.
Sophomore Isis Nem is also not particularly sentimental about the school year coming to an end.
“I’m not really going to miss anything about this year, because nothing is changing too much next year,” Nem said.
Both Nem and De La Fuente agree that years in high school seem to go by quickly.
“Every year in high school goes by quickly for me, but day to day, time seems to pass slower,” Nem said.
High school years pass by quickly for lots of students. This can be a relief when a year with difficult classes seems to breeze by, but it’s also important to appreciate the fun memories you’ve made.
