In January 2025, North Texas was hit by a rare snowstorm, as people across the country faced freezing temperatures. In Frisco, Texas, the snow started falling early in the morning, first lightly, then turning into heavier snow. Areas like the Texas Hill Country, Dallas-Fort Worth, and even parts of the Gulf Coast saw snow, with some places getting a few inches.
For many Texans, a snow storm is a rare event that can shut down entire areas. Many school districts in the area were closed from January 9-10, 2025. This also affected businesses, as many Texans are not prepared to drive in the icy weather, and cities lack salt trucks and other infrastructure to prevent frozen roads.
“I work at Chick-fil-A, and we were closed during the snow days for everyone’s safety,” senior Erica Gentry said.
The snow days brought lots of excitement and fun activities. There were snowball fights, building snowmen, sledding, and making snow angels.
“It was so exciting to wake up to the inches of snow,” senior Mia Calderon said. “I spent my day sledding and making snowmen”
The snow was fun while it lasted, but most of the snow melted by Saturday due to the rising temperatures.
