The Wolverine Games are back at Wakeland High School, and although this year’s event looks a little different, it is still full of excitement and school spirit. Organized by the Wakeland Student Council, the Wolverine Games are a fun tradition where students come together to relax, play, and enjoy time with friends. This year’s Wolverine Games will occur on May 20th.
“I think it’s a very random change,” senior Zoe Agpalza said. “But I understand why they did it, and at least we get to still have Wolverine Games.”
In previous years, the event lasted around four hours, giving students a big break from classes to take part in food, games, and photo ops. This year, the event has been shortened to about two and a half hours and is held during lunch. While it may be a little shorter, there is still plenty to look forward to.
“My favorite part of wolverine games was hanging out with my friends and all the fun games organized by STUCO,” sophomore Ava Campbell said. “It is always nice to have a break from school!”
This year’s Wolverine Games will include a variety of fun activities like chalk art, hula hoop contests, tennis, and more. Last year’s event featured Chick-fil-A, photo booths, and games that students loved, and this year’s Student Council is keeping the same high-energy, community vibe, even with the new schedule.
“They have a lot of opportunities in games where all the students can bond,” senior Georgia Greene said. “Especially in the teacher vs student games because it brings everyone together.”
The goal of Wolverine Games has always been to bring students together, give everyone a break from the classroom, and remind us that school can be fun, too. Whether you’re competitive in the games or just there to hang out and watch, the event offers something for everyone.
