School spirit is in full swing with the high school football season kicking off, but fans attending games at Toyota Stadium will notice some big changes this year.
Renovations at Toyota Stadium, which began earlier this year, are underway and have already altered the game-day experience for Frisco ISD students and fans. The upgrades include additional seating, a new roof structure, expanded concession areas, more restrooms and the installation of the largest video board at any soccer-specific stadium in the country.
These improvements are designed to elevate the spectator experience, but they also raise questions about how ongoing construction will affect Frisco ISD’s sports events in the meantime.
When asked how the renovations affect football games, varsity player Hunter Christensen said, “It sucks because you have no fans and no band behind you.”
The renovations are not expected to be completed until 2028. In the meantime, Frisco ISD has made several adjustments to accommodate the construction, especially during football season.
“Both home and visiting teams will be on the west side of the stadium for the fall,” football coach Isom said.
This adjustment also applies to other game-day participants, including the Wakeland High School band and drill team, who will now be stationed on the west side as well. The temporary shift marks a noticeable difference from past years, making for a unique game-day atmosphere for high school football.
Freshman Sofia Sheets said the changes feel unfamiliar but hopes the wait will be worth it.“This change is weird and I hope the renovations are done quickly so we can enjoy football games,” she said.
Although the stadium will remain under construction for the next few years, the long-term enhancements promise a significantly upgraded experience for both players and fans. Until then, Friday night lights in Frisco will come with a slightly different view.
