When thinking about fall, it is almost impossible to not think about the hit 2000’s TV show Gilmore Girls. This multigenerational drama, set in the fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow, explores the family and friendships of mother-daughter pair, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
“The show is cozy, and that’s the vibe of fall. Watching it makes me so happy because I love fall,” sophomore Sydney Cheney said.
Gilmore Girls has so many episodes that capture a perfect fall day, here is how to enjoy a fall day like they do:
1. Get a fall themed beverage
No one drinks more coffee than the Gilmore Girls themselves. Make or buy a fall themed coffee, tea, or any drink that you enjoy. Starbucks, Mochas and Javas, and Dunkin all offer great options as part of their new fall menus.
2. Start the study grind
To viewers of the show this should come as no surprise. For those not in the know, Rory Gilmore is studying first, and doing everything else second. Get in that Gilmore mindset, by doing your homework or reading a good book. You might end up at your dream school!
3. Eat a big meal
Stumble into your local diner to live out your true “Luke’s” lifestyle. Order just about anything that sounds good, and make sure to have a big cup of coffee with it.
4. Get involved in your community
Although Frisco is not quite as small as Stars Hollow, we still have our fair share of wacky events. Volunteer at a pumpkin patch, attend Oktoberfest, or visit a haunted house. If you really want to feel like you are in Stars Hollow, attend a city council meeting to feel like you are in one of Taylor’s town hall meetings.
5. Listen to some fall themed tunes
The soundtrack for this show is the perfect place to start with some fall jams, such as “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer, “There She Goes” by The La’s, and “Dreams” by The Cranberries. You could also just listen to what Lane is actually saying, even though Rory sure doesn’t!
6. Tell your people you love them
At its core, Gilmore Girls is about the people you choose to surround yourself with and the people you call family. Let the people in your life know you love them.
Finally, as promised, here are the best Gilmore Girls episodes for a cozy autumn day:
1. Pilot (Season 1, Episode 1)
This episode’s backdrop is set right at the beginning of the school year. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and the characters enter new beginnings.
2. Kiss and Tell (Season 1, Episode 7)
In this episode, fall is the main character. Fall decorations are being fought over, pumpkins are being carved, and Autumn festivals are in full swing.
3. They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They (Season 3, Episode 7)
Personally, this is my favorite episode of the entire series. The whole episode is about new eras of life, which is what the season of fall is all about. If you are rooting for team Jess, you will definitely appreciate this episode.
4. A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving (Season 3, Episode 10)
This is a fun Thanksgiving episode, and what is fall without thanksgiving?
5. Let The Games Begin (Season 3, Episode 8)
In this episode, Rory tailgates at a college football game, and what’s a better reminder of fall then a football game.
