On March 21, 2025, Disney released yet another live action film: Snow White. This release was no surprise, as Disney has remade several movies as live actions, bringing childhood magic to life. The original “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” was disney’s first animated film.
Many beloved Disney fans have mixed feelings about this remake, and it has been receiving mostly negative feedback from social media. The majority of this criticism arose before the movie was even released. People were disappointed that the dwarfs were computer-generated, rather than Disney not casting people with actual dwarfism.
The casting has also been in the bucket of negative reviews. For instance, Rachel Ziegler, playing Snow White, has been the face of controversy surrounding the film’s release. Although Ziegler has proven both her acting and singing abilities in big movies such as, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” she has faced backlash for her comments about the original Snow White film.
“Even though Rachel Ziegler isn’t the Snow White everyone imagined, I think she has the ability to do justice to the role,” senior Hana Jabbar said.
With Disney doing live remakes of our childhood to bring back nostalgia on the big screen, the majority of the audience are definitely worried for this movie on how terrible it might do at the box office, especially because this remake does not follow the original storyline. The Prince Charming character will not be in the movie, which is a decision that has some people confused and others praising the feminist message of self-reliance. The story is about Snow White joining forces with the seven dwarfs and a bandit named Jonathan to help save her kingdom from the evil queen.
Disney is already making more live action films, such as Lilo & Stitch, coming to theaters May 23, 2025, and Moana, coming to theaters July 10, 2026.
