I decided to spend the afternoon testing a long debated question—Free Birds or Chipotle?
I started out at Free Birds, drawn in by the loud music and walls covered in colorful art. I ordered a monster burrito with steak, rice, black beans, queso, lettuce, pico de gallo, and extra jalapeños. It was messy, overflowing with flavor, and felt like something made just for me. But halfway through, the tortilla started to break, and the flavors, while bold, were a little uneven.
After my adventure at Freebirds, I walked into Chipotle. It felt calmer and more organized than Freebirds already. I ordered a steak burrito with cilantro lime rice, black beans, mild salsa, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Every bite had a perfect balance, the tortilla held together beautifully, and it tasted fresh without being too heavy. It wasn’t as wild as Freebirds, but it was consistent and satisfying.
Freebirds had bold, adventurous burritos packed with all kinds of toppings. They were fun to customize, but sometimes the flavors didn’t mix evenly, and the tortilla struggled to hold everything together. Chipotle’s burritos were cleaner, fresher, and more consistent. Every bite had a balanced taste, and the ingredients always felt like they belonged together.
Freebirds often came in a bit pricier, especially if you added extra toppings, and it was easy for the total to sneak up on you. Chipotle was more straightforward, clear pricing, generous portions, and you still got a lot of food without breaking the bank.
In the end, while I liked the creativity of Freebirds, Chipotle’s burrito ended up winning me over. It was easier to eat, tasted cleaner, and left me feeling just full enough without being stuffed. For me personally, Chipotle was the better choice.
If I had to rate Chipotle and Freebirds out of five stars I would give Chipotle a four out of five. Chipotle has very fresh ingredients, but you may have to wait sometime to get your bowl with their long lines. Although Freebirds never had a long line, their ingredients aren’t as fresh and have sat out for a little while, so for those reasons I’d give Freebirds a two and a half out of five.
While both restaurants had good food, if someone asked me where I’d recommend, I’d tell them Chipotle.
