With the upcoming school year, many opportunities are popping up. Schedules for next year are due, dual credit is open for admission, and clubs are opening for new members. Another thing that has recently opened is NHS applications.
NHS stands for National Honor Society, and the opportunity to join is given to students for notable academic performances. The eligibility to join comes from a student’s weighted grade point average. Students should look at the opportunity as a personal accomplishment and a great way to learn new skills.
“I think NHS will help me to be responsible and also help out the community by doing service projects. I know this could be difficult but I am willing to accept the challenge,” sophomore Adisyn Shaw said.
In the application process, students are required to submit service hours, leadership positions, extracurriculars, and an essay on their character. After submitting your application, you must complete the Bypass quiz, which teaches new students the expectations and rules of NHS. Once finished, you need at least three teacher recommendation letters from your core classes. The canvas course provides you with the form to send out to them.
If students have any questions, they can email the chapter advisor, Mrs. Flanders, or visit her in room D220.
