On Wednesday May 8, 2024, thousands of students will be pedaling up a storm for National Bike to School Day. It is an event organized by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. It provides safety education for children and encourages students to bike to school.
Biking is good for you because it helps you stay active and get exercise. Biking can help improve your mental health because when you are focused on pedaling on your bike it can take away some of the thoughts in your brain that cause worry. Those are only a few of the benefits that students get when they bike to school.
“I think it’s important because it can definitely help with climate change and so much more like if you’re biking every day to school instead of just taking your car to school every day,” freshman Tenley Nelson said.
Students biking to school instead of their parents driving them to school helps the Earth become a greener place because when they bike to school there is less exhaust gas in the air.
National Bike to School Day benefits thousands of students. It has been a success since 2012 and hopefully will continue to happen for many more years. On Wednesday, May 8, drive carefully and be mindful of all the student bikers on the sidewalks crossing the streets.
