The Dallas Stars have just clinched their spot in the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, bringing excitement to Texas hockey fans. This achievement marks their 20th playoff appearance since relocating to Dallas in 1993-94 and the 37th time in franchise history.
“The Stars are headed to the postseason for a fourth straight year,” the Dallas Stars staff wrote in their article. “20th time since relocating to Dallas in 1993-94 and 37th time in franchise history.”
The hockey season is winding down, with playoffs less than a month away for the NHL. Following their victory over the Seattle Kraken, the Dallas Stars became the third team in the league to secure a playoff spot. Their current record (as of Sunday, Mar. 30) stands at 48-21-4 with nine games still remaining in the regular season.
If clinching the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year wasn’t impressive enough, they currently rank second in their division, second in their conference, and third overall in the league with 100 points. This is particularly noteworthy considering the formidable competition in their division and conference. They’re competing against powerhouse teams such as the Colorado Avalanche (who have 93 points) and are among the top teams in the league.
What makes their success even more remarkable is that they’ve achieved this while missing key players. Miro Heiskanen, a vital defenseman for the team, has been sidelined since late January with a knee injury. Additionally, veteran star Tyler Seguin has been absent from the lineup for most of the season due to hip surgery. While Seguin is expected to return soon, Heiskanen will likely remain out until at least the second round of playoffs. Despite these significant absences and numerous injuries, the Stars continue to shine.
Head coach Pete DeBoer, who has led the Stars through this successful season, offered an optimistic update on Seguin’s recovery progress. “He looks good,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said to NHL.com on their website. “Next steps are getting the wind and the cardio [back], so he had a good little skate there.” With injured players soon to return, the team will be strengthened just in time for their playoff push.
The future looks bright for the Stars as well, with many key players secured through long-term contracts. The goalie, Jake Oettinger, who has been outstanding for the team, received an eight-year extension early in the season. Young star Wyatt Johnston also got a five-year extension, ensuring the team retains this rising talent for years to come. The Stars have also been making strategic moves to build their roster for sustained success.
