Teaching is a job that requires patience, resilience, and knowledge. These traits are often overlooked, however Ms. Miller goes above and beyond the requirements in her position as a math teacher at Wakeland High School.
“My goal for teaching [is] to make math fun even though it’s difficult,” Miller said.
Ms. Miller is in her second year of teaching at Wakeland. And after only a short time, many students have grown to appreciate Ms. Miller for her efforts to make math more entertaining. Because she is so friendly and inclusive, Ms. Miller’s room is an inviting place for students to hang out during tutorial times.
“I like that she tries to make relationships with the students,” said sophomore Gracie Bueno.
Interestingly enough, Ms. Miller graduated from another FISD school, Frisco High School. After high school, she earned her degree in Secondary Education in Math from Texas Tech. She moved back to Frisco to teach and to be close to her family and friends.
“I like to balance my work life and hang out with friends on the weekend,” said Miller.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Miller has many hobbies, such as learning to play guitar, running a food blog on Instagram, and going to Wakeland events. As a true enthusiast for math and learning, Ms. Miller is in the process of achieving a masters degree in STEM curriculum from Texas Tech. She is undoubtedly up for the difficult task of earning her masters degree, which is also why she chose a career in teaching math. She wants to help students learn, and hopefully develop a similar love for math.
“I decided to become a teacher because I know math is a difficult subject,” Miller said.
Ms. Miller’s dedication to teaching what many consider to be ‘the hardest subject’ does not go unnoticed!
