Each school year brings new students and teachers, but this year has also brought a fresh face to the counselors office, Mr. Loveless. This new face may be familiar to some students who recognize him from Cobb Middle School.
Now a Wakeland counselor, Loveless oversees students with last names between Lb and R. Before moving to Wakeland, Loveless had been a counselor at Cobb Middle School for seven years.
While his new position is still as a school counselor, this new venture brings different responsibilities and challenges.
“Some things are the same, such as the responsibilities of scheduling. But high school is completely different because of all the 518 classes you can take. Trying to match those with what the students need for the year, as well as looking at credits and graduation is a little bit new to me,” Loveless said.
Going from middle school to high school as a staff member, means having the opportunity to see some familiar faces among the students, but in a whole new light and environment.
“I see a lot of people I recognize since I was at [Cobb] for seven years. What I love about being at the high school level is seeing how much more they’ve matured and can carry on a real conversation. At Meet the Teacher Night, some parents recognized me too,” Loveless said.
Loveless has the unique opportunity to watch many students grow up, and he will continue to do so as part of the Wakeland family. To help make him feel welcome at Wakeland, be sure to say hello to our new counselor.
