Are you certain about your career path? If not, consider taking a class at the Career and Technical Education Center. At the CTE Center, student Perryn Cote is taking a mock trial class where it’s not just a classroom, it’s a courtroom.
“This class at the CTE Center is really important because it’s one of the only classes my school will offer that specifically caters to law students.” Perryn Cote said.
The CTE center offers various classes like video game programming, veterinary medicine, and even engineering.
“You’ve got general English classes and public speaking classes, but none of them specifically hone in on the type of skills that lawyers are going to need,” Cote said.
Frisco ISD Mock Trial team won the 46th annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition this month. Cote not only went to this competition, but was the only Wakeland High School student chosen. More than 1,500 students competed this year across Texas and provided students with hands-on opportunities to see how lawyers work day and night.
The CTE center provides a mock trial class, which not many high schools provide. With hands-on classes like this, students are not just learning, they’re preparing for a future in law.
