A Big Step Up
Along with the new school year, Wakeland begins the year with a new varsity football head coach. Coach Isom, previously assistant football coach, is leading the new group of varsity football players for the 2022-2023 school year.
Players on the Wakeland football team have expressed many positive memories and motivational experiences with Isom, and are excited to pursue the year with their new head coach.
“He really gets us going and keeps us going in the right direction,” junior varsity player Tristan Simmons said.
Coach Isom has expressed the importance of motivation and working together as a team, and is hoping to connect his players this following season.
“We spent a lot of time at the beginning of the season really driving home our theme of we over me and everyone understanding that it’s bigger than one person,” Coach Isom said.
Players are looking forward to a great year, as well as some teachers here at Wakeland.
“Dr Isom captures the true essence of a coach on and off the field. When he worked with me in the classroom he motivated, inspired and pushed students to work hard and always do their best, ” Ms. O’Hara said.
Last year, varsity had a win rate of 8-4, placing Wakeland third in districts. This sparked a flame of school spirit throughout the entire school, and Coach Isom is prepared to keep this flame ignited.
