With Wakeland up 31-28 with a little over a minute to go, Lone Star senior quarterback Collin Blackstock received the snap near their endzone. After looking for an open teammate, he threw the ball, only for it to fall into the hands of Wakeland senior defensive back Donovan Woolen. As Woolen came up with the interception, his teammates celebrated with him, and the student section roared with cheers.
“I thought we won the game. I truly thought it was over,” sophomore wide receiver Drew Reed said.
However, on the next play, Wakeland fumbled the ball, giving Lone Star another opportunity to take the lead. A few plays later, Lone Star scored the winning touchdown with about 25 seconds remaining to make the score 35-31, resulting in the Wolverines’ second district loss in a row.
“You have to play all 48 minutes and [not] let up. We had the right personnel, but we just didn’t execute,” Reed said.
With the team now 3-2 overall and 1-2 district, they look to play well until the end and not allow the game to slip away in their next matchups.
“We got to go out and play all 48 minutes and know our assignments,” Reed said. “[We] need to watch more film and know what the opponent’s going to do.”
As they look to end their losing streak, they play Liberty on Friday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Kuykendall Stadium. To show your support, you can buy tickets at https://tickets.friscoisd.org/.
