LeBron James and Michael Jordan are widely known as the two best basketball players to ever touch the court. But which of them is better has been a controversial topic for many years now. Whether it’s statistics, greatest plays, playoff performances, or any of the amazing accomplishments these players have, nobody can ever agree on who is better. This clash between two generations has caused many arguments.
“I consider LeBron to be the more accomplished player with the better statistics, but I also think Michael Jordan has better skills, which, in my eyes, makes him the best player of all time,” sophomore Sebastian Villanueva said.
Many consider LeBron to be better because of his many statistical accomplishments like being the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, being fourth all-time in assists, and the most all-time playoff games won. Others consider Jordan to be better because of his scoring dominance and his 6-0 record in the NBA finals. Although LeBron has four NBA championships, he is most criticized for having a 4-6 record in the finals while Jordan went undefeated.
“Michael Jordan showed that he can get it done in the playoffs with his 6-0 record in the finals and never going to a game seven which is really the only thing that matters,” sophomore Elliot Hubbard said.
Despite this, many consider there to be much more competition in today’s league. Also, LeBron took worse teams to the finals, while Jordan had good teams with him every year. Although Jordan was 6-0 in the finals, he was also swept (lost in a series without winning a single game) in the first round of the playoffs multiple times.
“I think LeBron would be better in Jordan’s era, than Jordan in LeBron’s era, just because of how skilled LeBron is. He is the better shooter, and back then, they had a harder time shooting, so I think LeBron would just use his skills and drop 40 points a game, every game,” freshman Jordan Johnson said.
In terms of regular season accomplishments, both have had their fair share of impressive seasons. Jordan has five regular season MVPs, while LeBron has four. LeBron has made 19 all-NBA teams while Jordan only made 11. While both are very talented basketball players, it is left up to the public to decide who is the better player. Who is your GOAT?
