Coming off of a 64-40 win on January 9, 2024, against district rival Frisco, the Lady Wolverines are 20-6 overall and 5-1 in district play, making them tied for first place in the district.
In the game, contributions from junior Faith Lee with 15 points, freshman Charlotte Cavin with 15 points, and sophomore Madison Epps with 14 points helped propel the team to a win.
“It feels great…We have such a great team this year [and are] so excited to continue the season,” Cavin said.
Having won 20 games already, they have reached the most wins in a season since they won 23 games in 2011-2012.
“We all just work so hard, and we believe in each other,” Cavin said. “I know my teammate’s going to make [a shot], [and] they know I am going to make [a shot]. It’s just a really good atmosphere.”
Driven by the team’s work ethic and belief, on November 30, 2023, Cavin recorded a new school record of 39 points in a win against Callisburg.
“It was great. I couldn’t have done it without my team. Every single one of them, whether they were on the bench at the time or whether they played, [had an impact],” Cavin said.
As well as her incredible performance against Callisburg, she averages around 16 points per game and shoots 36 percent from three.
“Charlotte’s just an amazing player all around. She can finish layups [and] shoot threes,” senior Kate Koeller said. “She’s a great passer too, so she gives us really good assists that help us score. She makes us better every day.”
In addition to Cavin’s great shooting, the team as a whole has shot well from three, as Lee and freshman Kaylei Thornton are shooting 35 percent and 30 percent from three on the season, respectively.
“We practice short jumpers and long jumpers. We are just always shooting in practice. I think the constant repetition of that helps,” Koeller said.
Looking to build on their great start to district play, they will face The Colony tonight at 5:45 p.m. at The Colony High School. To support the Wolverines, you can buy tickets at https://tickets.friscoisd.org/.
“We just have to go out and treat it like any other gameday. We can’t go in with a big head because we have a good record,” Koeller said.
