With a second place finish in the district standings, the Lady Wolverines are now headed to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
“It is so amazing that we were able to make it to the playoffs this year,” junior Kyla Stengle said. “It proves that our progress and all of our hard work has paid off this season.”
As they begin the playoffs, they aim to keep improving, as they ended the season with a 48-45 loss to The Colony High School on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. In the game, they struggled with turnovers in the closing minutes after having a 22-11 lead in the first quarter. With late-game turnovers being an issue in their past two losses, they look to play with less tunnel vision.
“We need to be better at playing as a team,” senior Kate Koeller said. “I feel like we were going one on three sometimes, so we just need to play as a team and pass.”
Now that the loss is behind them, they are focused on having more ball movement.
“In practice, we need to make sure that we are passing to each other because whatever happens in practice translates to the games,” Koeller said.
Looking to finish games stronger, they start their playoff run against Heritage High School tonight at 7 p.m. at Independence High School. The team will need the fans’ support so purchase tickets at https://tickets.friscoisd.org/.
“We need to play together as a team, and as long as we play the way we know we can play, we’ll be [successful],” Koeller said.
