In a thrilling game last night, the Lady Wolverines claimed their first playoff victory since 2011 in a 50-44 win against Heritage High School.
“After not having a playoff win for over 10 years, we all really strived to win,” sophomore Zanna Osborn said. “[Being] in pressured situations in practice really helped us [have a historic night].”
In the game, the Wolverines dealt with Heritage’s physicality and battled several comeback attempts. In the first quarter, they started off strong with a 17-8 lead. However, Heritage came back with vengeance in the second quarter and cut the lead to 29-23 before the end of the first half. With the Wolverines still ahead, they stayed confident.
“I think we did a good job of staying focused and locked in the whole game,” sophomore Madison Epps said. “Even when they would go on a run, we did not let it get to us and kept fighting.”
Into the second half, they relied on their strong defense and kept their emotions in check, as they closed out the game.
“We focused on shutting them down whenever they would get fast breaks, and even if they would make a shot, we did not let it get to our heads,” Epps said.
Looking to keep the momentum going, they will play Poteet High School on Thursday, February 15, 2024 with the time and location still to be announced. Be sure to purchase tickets at tickets.friscoisd.org and show your support!
“We need to play aggressively and not be afraid,” Osborn said. “We just need to play our game and not worry about anything else.”
