Ryder Treadway ran for 131 yards and scored four touchdowns, while Grayson Myer gained 125 yards. Lucas Mangham rushed for 12 yards and scored one touchdown, and Aidan Poole rushed for 123 yards.
Austin Wilson, who previously reported for WINTV, secured the overtime victory when he forced a strip fumble on the goal line and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown.
The junior defender’s clutch play stunned Lone Star and ignited a wild celebration among the Wolverine faithful.
Wilson’s timely strip and 100-yard sprint to the end zone delivered Wakeland its fifth victory of the season. The game-winning defensive play made waves beyond Texas high school football, earning features on Dallas Morning News, and Sports Illustrated‘s weekend coverage.
“The Wolverines triumphed 65-59 in an exhilarating overtime finish,” said Dr. Donna Edge, Principal at Wakeland. “The unwavering support from our cheerleaders, band, Legacy Line and student section was truly remarkable. Congratulations to Wakeland football, Coach Isom, and his outstanding coaching staff!”
The Wolverines will face the Sherman Bearcats next Thursday at 7 PM at Sherman Bearcat Stadium.
