After an incredible finish to the 2023-24 soccer season, with the girls varsity team winning state and the boys varsity team finishing second, this year’s season is finally here.
The pressure is on both teams to keep up the momentum and dominance that we saw last season. The girls’ team is riding high after winning state last year, while looking for ways to return to the championship game.
The team is confident heading into the new season, and they are fortunate to have the leadership of many veteran players, such as junior Audrey Gilbert who played a significant role in helping her team reach the top last year.
“I’m excited to see what the season holds, and I’m confident that our team will go far,” Gilbert said.
On the boys’ side, the team is ready to come back strong after a tough loss in the state finals last season.
“Going to state was fun, but we want to finish this year and win the state championship and show everyone we are the best in the state,” senior Luke Lacy said.
After coming so close to winning it all, they fell short of the state title, but they have to find ways to bounce back. Instead of letting last season’s defeat bring them down, the team has used it as motivation to work even harder this year.
“Losing in the state finals hurt, but it made us more determined. We’re focused and ready to come back even stronger,” senior Jack Minsky said.
Both teams have big goals, but they also have the skill and drive to achieve them. The girls are focused on defending their title, and the boys are hungry for redemption. As the season begins, everyone is feeling the excitement and the pressure to succeed.
The boys and girls played their first tournament over winter break. The boys went undefeated in the tournament, winning three games against solid opponents. The girls played in the same tournament, and they also went undefeated, scoring four girls in all three games.
Both teams are looking forward to district games this week, with both teams facing off against Reedy on January 22, 2025.
