In the competitive world of golf, Wakeland High School’s Luke Colton stands out not just for his top ranking, but for his grounded approach to the sport.
Colton, currently ranked No. 1 in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), has been honing his skills since age 4 when his father first introduced him to the game. His recent performance at the South Lake Spring Cup showcases the culmination of years of dedicated practice.
“It’s a lot of work, a lot of practice,” Colton says. “Being smart about my practice and having good time management, making sure I practice the right things — that’s really helped me these past few years.”
Coach Hostin attributes Colton’s success to more than just natural ability. “He works harder than anybody I’ve met,” Hostin says. “He approaches life with a knowledge of who he is and is grateful for where he’s at.”
Teammate Nick Granits emphasizes Colton’s approachability despite his achievements. “He’s just like a normal kid, not stuck up or anything,” Granits says. “He’s a super humble kid, so it’s really easy to get along with him.”
Colton has committed to continuing his golf career at Vanderbilt University, where his combination of talent and work ethic promises to make him a valuable addition to their program.
