The Wakeland High School baseball team advanced in the 2025 UIL Texas Baseball Championships with a 4-0 shutout win over Whitehouse in the area round. The Wolverines have now won six straight postseason games.
Wakeland’s defense remained solid throughout the series, but fell to a strong pitching performance by both Max Vetkoetter and Zeke Alexander.
In the first game against Whitehouse, senior Cooper Dillingham went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a crucial double that sparked a mid-inning rally. The Wolverines built their lead with timely hits and smart baserunning.
Both matchups against Whitehouse showcased discipline, preparation, and execution. Wakeland’s defense remained airtight throughout the game.
In Game 2, Austin Flores put Wakeland on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI single. Flores also led the defense with 10 fielding chances without an error.
“Our defense was flawless today, and that’s what you need in playoff baseball,” Flores told Game Changer Media after the game. “When your pitcher is throwing like Zeke did, you want to make all the plays behind him.”
Garrett Pickard and Austin Liegl each collected two hits for Wakeland.
Sophmore Austin Liegl had himself a weekend, going 5-5 and getting a hit every single at-bat.
The Wolverines will travel to Duncanville for their next game Thursday in the regional semifinals and face Corsicana.
All games will be played at Duncanville High School, 900 W. Camp Wisdom Road • Duncanville, TX 75116
