This week, the 2025 MLB playoffs are officially starting with the wild card round. The matchups consist of some big rivalries, such as the New York Yankees vs the Boston Red Sox, which is guaranteed to be a thriller.
Fans are anxiously awaiting Tuesday September 30th, so they can finally watch their favorite team play for the crown. “I am so excited to see them battle it out in the Wild Card. I think whoever wins this could go to the World Series,” said a fan. Other matchups consist of the Cleveland Guardians vs the Detroit Tigers, the Cincinnati Reds vs the reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs vs the San Diego Padres, who have former Wakeland student Ryan O’Hearn playing for them. Already in the ALDS and NLDS thanks to winning their respective divisions, are the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, and Milwaukee Brewers.
There have already been some shocks and upsets and the postseason hasn’t even started, such as the New York Mets missing the playoffs completely. “This team has no heart, they spent over 1 billion dollars in the offseason just to miss the playoffs completely. It’s insulting to the fans and those who have supported them,” said diehard Mets fan Curtis Wagner via Instagram. The Mets aren’t the only team that dawn the orange and blue to miss the playoffs, the Houston Astros also did not make the postseason for the first time since 2016, ending an almost 10 year postseason streak. “I’m pretty disappointed as a person who was raised an Astros fan,” said Sophomore Stella Castro. “It would have been pretty fun to watch them during October.” Although, not everyone is disappointed. The Astros are known to cheat during the regular season and postseason, so many baseball fans are not fond of them. When asked about the Astros missing the playoffs, Freshman Kenzie Dawson was very excited. “I hate the Astros so I am very happy, cheaters don’t deserve to play in October.”
This year’s MLB postseason is guaranteed to be an exciting watch, and there will definitely be some history made. Who will make the 2025 World Series? We’ll just have to wait and see.
