With a new year comes new staff, equipment, and policies. There are a lot of changes coming to Wakeland to help the school run smoother, and one of these changes is the new school ID.
Although school IDs can be very useful, students have been skeptical about whether they are being tracked. This is because students have been starting rumors, which has led to the false information spreading among the campus.
“There was this guy in my tech theater class that told me there is a chip that tracks you, but I’m not sure if it’s true,” junior Piper Strange said.
The new school IDs have multiple new features including more efficient ways to get lunch, bus transportation, library books, and access to school events and games. However, the new IDs are not tracking you. According to the FISD website, IDs take note when elementary school bus riders get on and off the bus. The card has a passive radio frequency identification (RFID) chip inside that can be scanned but not used to track people.
“I feel like it’s not different than last year,” junior Ava Green said.
Despite popular belief, the school ID has been revamped with Wakeland colors and logo instead of the blue and green from before. The new design has more information about what school IDs can access.
“They’re helpful, but no one uses [the new features],” said sophomore Evan Delcid.
There are great advantages such as being able to use your ID to buy lunch and snacks. Instead of having to type in your ID number in, you can just scan your card reducing the amount of time it takes to buy lunch and the germs spread by touching the number pad. This is safer because less germs are spread before eating lunch, keeping Wakeland healthy. After all, we all want a happier and healthier wakeland which the school IDs help us accomplish.
To conclude, school IDs are very useful and beneficial in making sure that our school runs efficiently.
