After weeks of planning, shopping, and trying on dresses, the big day is quickly approaching! On May 3, 2025, many Wakeland seniors will spend their morning preparing for one of the most anticipated nights of the year: prom.
From early morning hair appointments, to last-minute shoe decisions, the hours leading up to prom may seem overwhelming. However, with proper care and time management, prom day can be an unforgettable and amazing experience.
One way to reduce the craziness of prom day is to get things like your nails, spray tan, or brows done in advance. Appointments for these things can be made in the week leading up to prom, but you can also choose to do them yourself at home.
For many students, their actual prom day begins really early. The first step of prom preparations for many girls is hair, whether they are getting their hair done professionally or styling it themselves.
“I have a hair appointment at 7 a.m. on the morning of prom,” senior Ava Vest said. “I wanted to leave myself plenty of time to go home and finish doing my makeup before taking pictures.”
Getting ready early is a great way to reduce stress and avoid last-minute wardrobe malfunctions or concerns about being late. After hair, the next step for many students is makeup.
“The most time consuming part of getting ready is definitely going to be doing my makeup,” senior Hope Snedaker said. “To make it easier for myself, I made sure to stock up on any products I’m going to need ahead of time, so I don’t need to worry about any last-minute trips to Ulta on prom day.”
Makeup is another step where students may choose to go to a professional or a friend for help, while others only trust themselves for their perfect look. It is important to have a clear idea of what you want and possibly do a trial makeup look beforehand.
Once makeup is complete, the final step for many students is putting on their suit or dress and taking pictures. This year, some popular locations to take pictures include Adriatica Village, Arbor Hills, and Stonebriar Country Club.
“Before going to prom, my group is taking pictures at Adriatica Village,” senior Kara Lee said. “It’s a really pretty location and the lighting will look so good at sunset.”
It can be very helpful to figure out a location for pictures beforehand, as well as transportation from pictures to the prom, which will be held at the Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star.
Whether you are spending your morning rushing between beauty appointments or taking a more laid-back approach to preparations, the morning of prom will be a whirlwind for many Wakeland seniors. Regardless of how you choose to prepare, remember to make the most of the night and enjoy one of your final events of high school.
Prom is not primarily about looking your best, it is also about the memories and moments you share with the people you go with. Be sure to enjoy your experience no matter what, but use these tips to help make getting ready less stressful.
