Senior Austin Wilson isn’t just making noise under the Friday night lights with our fellow Wolverines,on August 25th, he represented Wakeland, Frisco, and the entire United States of America on the big world stage in Costa Rica for a powerlifting world championship.
To make it to the championships, Austin had to be extremely motivated, “I was trying to beat a guy that beat me last year. He was talking trash and that made me mad.” Says Austin. That motivation obviously paid off as this year, Austin ended up taking home the gold at the World Power lifting Men’s Juniors & Sub-juniors Classic Championship.
Obtaining this prestigious win came with quite the journey. “A challenging part of the competition was coming back from a shoulder injury,” he said.
Austin got first place in squatting and lifted a record setting 708 pounds, he also won third place on bench and pressed 391 pounds. Additionally he won second place in the deadlift competition by pulling 700 pounds.
Congratulations on your big win Austin!
