Wakeland Student Council is encouraging students to “make tails wag” by donating gently used blankets and T-shirts to benefit a local animal shelter. Donations will be accepted through Sept. 12 in room E107, Coach Lancaster’s classroom. Whether it’s an old favorite t-shirt or an extra blanket lying around, your donation can make a huge difference in the lives of rescued pets.
The donation drive is part of the STUCO’s Energy and Environment initiative, which combines sustainability with community service. By collecting items that might otherwise be discarded, the project aims to both comfort animals and reduce textile waste.
“Every donation matters, so it would be great for students to participate,” said STUCO member Sarah Cashman, “It’s an easy way to give back.”
Blankets and T-shirts will be repurposed as bedding and enrichment items for dogs currently living in the shelter. According to organizers, these supplies can make a big difference in improving the well-being of animals awaiting adoption.
Student council members emphasized that the drive is also about raising awareness. Instead of throwing away old materials, students are encouraged to find new uses for them. That simple action supports both the environment and vulnerable animals.
“This project shows how small efforts can create meaningful change,” Cashman said.
STUCO members hope students across campus will join in the effort and help demonstrate the school’s commitment to compassion and sustainability.
Students are encouraged to drop off their donations in the box outside room E107 before Sept. 12. Organizers said even one T-shirt or blanket can help — and together, the Wakeland community can make a big difference for dogs in need.
