Last week was many Wakeland students favorite time of the year: homecoming. Students showed their excitement through participating in spirit days, attending the homecoming football game, as well as the dance. Made possible by Wakeland’s student council, here’s a full recap.
This year’s theme was Tangled, and students got Tangled up in the spirit throughout the week. Monday was PJ day, Tuesday was camo day, Wednesday was crazy wig day, Thursday was neon day, and Friday was mums and garters.
“I participated in all of the dress up days,” said Junior Maggie Word. “Mum day and wig day were my favorites, because mums are traditional and wigs are really fun.”
Friday October 3rd, The Wolverines faced the Centennial Titans in the annual homecoming football game. With an ending score of 42-0, the Wolverines came out victorious and remained undefeated on the season. “These victories are pulled through with a tremendous amount of effort and discipline.” said Senior Iker Echeverrira. “We lift each other up, having each other’s back is important to our success.” The students showed support by overcrowding the student section while wearing their mums and garters to show their homecoming spirit. Our homecoming king and queen were none other than Wakeland’s Senior quarterback Jayden Maples, and Senior soccer player, Addison Hunt. Voted on by Wakeland students themselves, they were crowned before the game to the excitement of students.
To tie up the week, the homecoming dance took place in the Wakeland cafeteria last Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. To express the theme for this year’s homecoming, Tangled, Senior Sophia Chavez painted an outstanding mural outside the cafe.
“I really loved the mural on the cafeteria windows, that alone made me want to go.” said Senior Solai Nachiyappan.
The dance had blasting music as well as a photobooth to enjoy with friends. “I’m happy I got to spend time with friends. I liked the music and the atmosphere, and the photo booth was my favorite” said Sophomore Grayson Loyd
Overall, this year’s homecoming was a success and the Wolverines are looking forward to seeing what the theme will be next year!
