The Musical Take on a Classic

The famous story of Ebeneezer Scrooge first told by Charles Dickens in “A Christmas Carol”, has been loved by families for many years. With several movies made to retell the story, the latest rendition indeed does it justice.

Spirited was released on November 11, 2022. This remake of the classic follows Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) as the modern Scrooge of the story. Ryan Reynolds’s character spins lies and focuses the majority of his time on the internet, losing his holiday cheer. He is taken on a musical journey by the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) to rekindle his Christmas spirit.

The musical is what viewers would expect from the tale, but the live-action musical truly brings to life the characters. Clint Briggs goes through his past, present, and yet-to-come Christmas in order to bring to light his carelessness and lack of empathy toward the holiday.

While this idea may seem overused at this point, the musical and comedic flare added by Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell’s skills makes it seem new and exciting for everyone.

With a score of 69% on rotten tomatoes and a 79% audience score, Spirited is a refreshing musical soon-to-be another go-to for families around the holiday season.

Ryan Reynold’s surprising musical abilities impressed many critics and audiences alike. If you missed this hilarious action star taking center stage in theaters, don’t worry because after just one week in theaters Spirited is already available on streaming for Apple TV+.

There is still time to increase your holiday spirit too!
