Welcome Back Jackson

Wakeland Student Overcomes Injury

Jackson celebrates coming home with family and friends.

A banner hung from the main stairwell at Wakeland High School. Big blue letters and well wishes from friends welcomed Jackson Hill back to school. The chances that he would ever play again were slim after he fractured his head into seven pieces.

“I dove and tried to stop because I was going into the baseline. The runner did not try to avoid me (and) drove his knee to the side of my skull.” Sophomore, Jackson Hill, described the hit that knocked him out and damaged his brain.

Hill was quickly taken to the emergency room where he was given two surgeries, and he stayed in a hospital in Atlanta for a month to make a full recovery. “I was dying to get back on the field even though doctors said I should never play baseball again,” Hill said. He is on the road to recovery and plans to play again in about three months.
