The 2024 election is quickly approaching. The top candidates are Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. This election will determine who will be our country’s president for the next four years, so no matter who you are voting for, it is important for eligible students to learn how to register to vote.
First, remember that you must be 18 years old to vote. However, you can begin registering when you are at least 17 years and 10 months old. You also must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the state you wish to register in.
An easy way to register is to complete registration while you are renewing your drivers license on the Texas Department of Public Safety website. You can simply follow the steps on their portal to update your driver license information, and you will be given the option to register to vote when renewing or updating your information.
You can also register by mail by downloading and printing the National Mail Voter Registration Form or Texas’s registration form. Fill it out and mail it to the appropriate address, which will likely be your local election office.
Another option is to register to vote in person at the City Secretary’s Office or through the Texas Secretary of State.
Remember that the deadline for registration is October 7, 2024 for both mail and in-person registration.
