The auditorium will be filled with music, applause, and final goodbyes on May 5th as Wakeland’s Choir hosts its last concert of the 2025-26 school year.

Performers have stated that through the WHS choir program, they got to join a community that helped them throughout high school. “Choir has been a great experience for me and has taught me many valuable skills for life. The community has been amazing and I’ve made so many friends throughout my year and it’s helped with my socialization skills,” said Lauren Livingston, senior choir event manager.
Throughout their high school choir careers, the seniors in varsity had to work to get out of JV and become officers while also perfecting their pieces. “From JV to varsity, it was a big difference, but I was really happy because I was able to be with my sister. Being an officer is fun because you get a lot of the insight on what choir is,” said Reese Wisdom, senior choir president. The three choirs spend months of preparation before the spring concert comes around the corner, presenting a cordial track for the seniors’ final chapter.
The songs that will be shown at this upcoming concert are performed at the choir’s UIL beforehand, making the final result at Wakeland thoroughly rehearsed and a meaningful concert for seniors. For some, it marks the last time they will sing on the Wakeland stage.
Continuing to sing after school and leaving the choir you’ve had for years is difficult; starting something new is even harder.
“This being my last concert at Wakeland is definitely a bittersweet feeling. I’m excited for it to be over and to move on to better and bigger things. But it’s also sad moving on from something that’s been a huge part of my life for so long, and just knowing this is the last time I get to perform with some of my best friends is definitely a sad feeling,” said Caroline Angle, senior choir vice president.

Choir members have repeatedly mentioned all of the friends they have made through this community. They say that they will miss seeing those friends in rehearsal every day, making funny faces and giggling across the risers when sight-reading. All the moments that are said to be missed, the majority of feelings are about having to leave the people behind.
For the seniors that have been in choir since they entered high school, they have been with the same people the entire time. Through tiring rehearsals and pushing through tough moments, they have shared memories they will never forget.
“Being in choir for 4 years has really been such a great experience; the community that I’ve built through choir has given me some of my best friends, my biggest support system, and just always someone I can go to for homework help, personal struggles, or if I just need someone to talk to,” Angle said, pointing to all the moments in and out of choir that have helped many people through different obstacles.
As the seniors are preparing to graduate, they are casting off their advice for future choir classes.
“My advice is to own up to your mistakes and be confident. I’m hoping to leave behind the humor, almost, because I feel like as much as you want to be serious and get your work done, you don’t want to be miserable. Having fun is one of the biggest parts which is what’s made this year different from other years to me. I think my biggest advice to future varsity members, future JV members, or just anyone that’s joining choir is knowing that it is a lot of work but it does pay off,” Wisdom said, reliving her moments in choir going all the way back to her freshman year.
“My advice is to own up to your mistakes and be confident.”
For the seniors leaving both high school and choir behind, this final concert represents more than just their lasting impression. It demonstrates how preparation, dedication, and determination through challenges will bring it to a satisfying end.
The last concert is expected to take place May 5 around 7 pm at the Wakeland Auditorium. For more information, please contact the Wakeland Choir.
