With the Wolverines winning 21-7 against Lebanon Trail as just over two minutes remain in the fourth quarter, Wakeland senior quarterback Brennan Myer received the ball and looked down the field for a teammate. He then passed to senior wide receiver Donovan Woolen for a 34-yard touchdown, expanding their lead on Thursday, October 19, 2023 to 28-7.
“I knew once we got that, we were up three scores, [so] the game was out of reach for them,” sophomore wide receiver Drew Reed said.
However, with a little under 20 seconds left, Lebanon Trail senior quarterback Zach Hare connected with junior wide receiver Joaquin Gibson for a 50-yard touchdown pass, making the final score 28-14 and giving the Wolverines another hard-earned victory.
“We had a good three days of practice before the game, [and] we [watched] a lot of film,” Reed said.
Despite winning the game, they were not as dominant as they were in their previous two games against Liberty and Centennial and look to be better.
“We could’ve beat them by more, but our energy wasn’t there,” Reed said. “We just can’t take some of these teams for granted even though their record may not be as good as ours. We just need to play every game to the best of our abilities.”
With the win, the Wolverines are now 6-2 overall and 4-2 in district, putting them in fourth place in district standings. As they are currently top four and hoping to improve their ranking, they are looking ahead to the playoffs.
“Playoffs are going to be exciting–huge crowds, a lot of energy, and win or go home,” Reed said.
As they prepare for the playoffs, they play Sherman on Friday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Kuykendall Stadium. To show your support, you can buy tickets at https://tickets.friscoisd.org/.
