The International Ice Hockey Federation U18 Men’s World Championship will be held right here in Frisco, Texas in April, 2025. Hockey is rapidly growing in North Texas, and this is an incredible opportunity for local fans to cheer on their country in an international competition, while watching young and talented players compete in-person.
“The IIHF World Juniors is an exciting opportunity to see future prospects on full display. I am looking forward to high level competition, standout performances, and supporting Team USA throughout the tournament,” senior Misha Brown said.
Several top players who are competing in this tournament will be eligible for the NHL draft in June, 2025. Based on pre-tournament scouting reports and player performance in previous tournaments, some top players to look out for from the USA are James Hagens, Cole Hutson, and Zeev Buium.
Tommy Evanyk is the Assistant Hockey Programs Manager for the Dallas Stars, and he works full-time at Comerica Center. Like many other hockey fans, he is planning to watch the tournament and will be proudly supporting Team Canada.
“I am most excited to watch the draft eligible prospects that may increase their stock in this tournament,” Evanyk said.
The tournament will take place from Wednesday, April 23, 2025 to Saturday May 3, 2025. Games will be divided between Comerica Center in Frisco and the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Nations will be divided into two groups. Team USA will compete in Group B (Comerica Center) along with Czechia, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. The other countries, including Canada, Finland, Latvia, Norway, and Slovakia, will form Group A (Credit Union of Texas Event Center). The gold medal game will be held at Comerica Center on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
The IIHF hosts different international tournaments, including the World Juniors in late December and early January. The United States defeated Finland in the 2025 World Juniors Championship to take the gold. Although the U18 World Championship is a separate competition, it is an opportunity to continue the rivalry between hockey fans in different countries.
Tickets and additional information can be found on Comerica Center’s official website.
