Most students used the break from school this past Monday, April 1, 2024, as a chance to sleep in, but the cast and crew of Wakeland’s White Christmas were awake bright and early to see the nominations for Broadway Dallas’ High School Musical Theater Awards. These awards are meant to recognize excellence in high school musical theater and inspire rising stars.
This year, Wakeland was nominated for Best Orchestra and two students were nominated for individual awards. Ava Green was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Featured Role, and David Trejo was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role.
Part of being nominated for an individual award is getting the privilege to perform with other actors who were nominated in the same category.
“I’m so excited to get to perform at the awards and I can’t wait to get to meet the rest of the Broadway Dallas cast!” junior Ava Green said.
The winners of the Outstanding Leading Actress and Actor categories also get to travel to New York and participate in the Jimmy Awards. The Jimmy Awards are a national recognition for high schoolers in musical theater across the United States. Past winners of these awards include Eva Noblezada, Reneé Rapp, Ryan McCartan, and Andrew Barth Feldman. All of whom went straight to Broadway after the awards.
“I’m most excited to get to perform for the people and to have the chance to get to go to the Jimmy Awards,” junior David Trejo said.
We are so proud of the theater program and orchestra members, and we wish them the best of luck in their categories.
