Serving Straight to State

While many people think of tennis as a spring sport, the teams have been garnering wins since school began. During the fall season, the team must win together rather than as individuals. Coach King and her varsity tennis team are currently ranked sixth in the state.

“So far as a team we have had an amazing season. I do believe that we have what it takes to get to the playoffs, and make it to state this year,” one of the varsity captains, senior Carly Necciai said.

Wakeland varsity tennis has lots of exceptional players who are passionate about the sport and have high hopes for the team this year.

“Our team is really good this year, and I think we have a good chance of making it to state. Our girls are really, really good. The team is great and so far we’re doing great,” freshman Alba Lopez said.

Team unity is an important part of any sport, and Wakeland players do a great job of supporting one another.

“One thing I love about this team is that we have grown closer to one another. It’s like a second family who cares and supports you,” Necciai said.

“I really like tennis this year. I feel like there’s a lot of team unity and everyone’s trying their hardest to get into the team spirit. The team has grown a lot and there are many new freshmen and sophomores on the team, which is good. I’m excited for what’s coming next,” junior Veronica Escalona said.

You can go to tennis games to support your fellow Wolverines! The last game of the regular season is at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Wakeland plays Lone Star at Lone Star High School.
