The NFL has provided us with many amazing Super Bowl matchups and nail-biting endings but what will the story be this February in Las Vegas?

Will the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs meet in the Super Bowl LVIII or will the two number one seeds, the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, pull through? What will a win mean for each of these teams?

This is a hot topic for the new year, especially for the youth. The Super Bowl is the one time of year even non-sport watchers enjoy a game of football.

“I think the Baltimore Ravens will win (against the Kansas City Chiefs) purely because of their defense. Roquan Smith will be too much for the Chiefs to ha ndle with his pass rush and Marlon Humphrey as well as Kyle Hamilton will shut down any type of offense Patrick Mahomes has to offer,” senior Joseph Clark said.

The Ravens proved through regular season performances that they are elite defensively and offensively which has made them many people’s favorite to win it all. Whether it’s the electric runs from quarterback Lamar Jackson, or the impressive catches from rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers, the offense can light up at any point and always put up high scores. On the other hand, Baltimore’s defense ranked second overall this season.

But will they be able to overtake the experienced Chiefs?

“Patrick Mahomes winning another Super Bowl would solidify him in the Hall of Fame and would put him in the greatest of all time conversation,” freshman Canton Cotton said.

No doubt the Chiefs have what it takes to win in the playoffs as they have made the AFC Championship six years in a row with Mahomes as a starter fresh out of Texas Tech.

Mahomes has won two Super Bowls, two Super Bowl MVPs, as well as two regular season MVPs and five Pro Bowls. These numbers are unmatched in today’s league, but who will the winner of the AFC face in the Super Bowl?

“Dan Campbell has set the Lions up for success all year. His aggressive coaching style mixed with veteran quarterback Jared Goff’s ability to make quick decisions will catapult the Detroit Lions to their first Super Bowl ever,” sophomore Drew Reed said.

Getting to the Super Bowl is no easy task as they will have to play the stacked 49ers, led by sophomore quarterback Brock Purdy. A team with the assets they have in Christian McCaffrey, Geoge Kittle, and Nick Bosa is hard to come by in a league with a salary cap. This 49ers team has high expectations, especially against an inexperienced Lions team that hasn’t been to the NFC championship since 1991. At the end of the day, it comes down to who wants it the most.
