Both the Wakeland boys and girls soccer teams continue their dominant playoff runs as they advance toward the state championships. Each team advanced past the third round last week after strong performances on the field.
The girls soccer team opened the postseason with an 8-0 win over Memorial on March 20. The following Tuesday, they defeated Jacksonville 6-2, then shut out Belton 4-0 on March 27 at Cleburne High School. The Lady Wolverines face Lovejoy in the fourth round Tuesday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at McKinney ISD Stadium.
Throughout the season, Wakeland’s girls have showcased teamwork and consistency, going undefeated in district play.
“Through grit and determination, we have succeeded by staying disciplined,” junior Ariva Raj said. “We support each other and give our best effort in every game.”
The boys soccer team also remains undefeated this season, finishing district play with a 14-0 record and a district championship title. They opened playoffs with an 8-2 win over Memorial, followed by a 1-0 victory over Mount Pleasant and a 5-1 win against West Mesquite on March 27.
The Wolverines will face Liberty on Tuesday, March 31, in the regional finals at Kuykendall Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
“These playoff games have demonstrated how capable we are as a team,” junior Jose Homero said. “We definitely need to stay composed and consistent, especially during the last few minutes of the game when the stakes are high.”
Both teams have demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience as they aim to represent Wakeland at the state championships.
We wish both teams good luck in tomorrow’s matches!
