Thanksgiving is all about family, gratitude, and let’s be honest, food.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, Grant and Camden went around campus to find out what your fellow Wolverines favorite Thanksgiving dishes are. Every year, millions of Americans gather around the table to enjoy a meal that’s part tradition, part comfort, and all delicious. But which dishes truly make Thanksgiving complete?
According to 150 Wolverines, three Thanksgiving classics rise above the rest: turkey, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese.
No Thanksgiving table is complete without the turkey. Whether it’s roasted to a golden crisp, smoked low and slow, or deep-fried for extra crunch, turkey has long been the symbol of the holiday feast. It’s the main event, the centerpiece, and the reason carving knives come out just once a year.
Right beside the turkey sits a mountain of mashed potatoes—smooth, buttery, and sometimes loaded with garlic or sour cream. They’re the perfect partner to gravy and the comfort food that everyone reaches for seconds of. “Mashed potatoes are the glue that holds the meal together,” says food blogger and Thanksgiving fan Camden Lee.
Once thought of as a casual comfort dish, mac and cheese has officially earned its place among Thanksgiving royalty. Creamy, cheesy, and baked to perfection with a golden crust, it’s now a staple in homes across the country. “It’s the one dish that disappears first,” laughs Grant Harper, a food reporter. “You’ve got to get your scoop early or it’s gone.”
Of course, other classics still have their place—stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and green bean casserole—but these three dishes continue to top the charts year after year.
So as Thanksgiving Day approaches, one thing’s for sure: whether you’re carving the turkey, spooning up creamy potatoes, or scooping mac and cheese, you’re tasting more than just food—you’re tasting tradition.
