The new Texas law on clubs and organizations has led to the creation of many new clubs. One club in particular, UNICEF, has been established to educate our school community about the challenges children face globally and to advocate for the rights and well-being of all children.
“Unicef reaches out globally to help children in underdeveloped countries”, Club President Mridu Panchumarti said. “As well as providing humanitarian aid towards protecting children’s rights and needs”. From its first meeting, the club has emphasized understanding the challenges many children around the world face such as limited access to clean water, healthcare, education, and protection from violence or exploitation. By bringing these issues into school conversations, members hope to create a more informed and compassionate student body.
“Our motivation comes from knowing that so many underprivileged children lack opportunities and resources that are part of our everyday lives.”, Co-Club President Tavishi Dumpala said. “It is important to raise awareness to children in underdeveloped countries. UNICEF plans to host a variety of initiatives and events to support its mission. Their awareness campaigns aim to educate students about global child rights and issues, by creating posters about topics such as child nutrition, clean water access, and education for all. While also aiming to reach their fundraising goal, community service projects, and collaborations opportunities with other school clubs.
“Our club supports UNICEF locally by organizing school-wide awareness campaigns, hosting fundraisers, and partnering with community organizations,” Mridu Panchumarti said. “Hopefully this can promote children’s rights and well-being”. With all these plans, the UNICEF Club is ready to make a real difference and get more students excited about global advocacy.
