When the Future Ready Club launched at Wakeland this year, it began with a simple but familiar feeling: uncertainty. Over the summer, its founder realized that despite researching and searching for the “right” major, the answer never came easily. The only thing that helped was diving deep, learning the details people don’t usually talk about, comparing options, and asking the right questions.
The mission of the club is straightforward but deeply meaningful, to give students clarity about their future, inspire curiosity, and ease the stress that comes with choosing a major or career path. Members explore different fields through presentations that break down the pros and cons, workload, ideal personality traits, pay, schedules, and more. Meetings are held one to two times a month, and the atmosphere is purposefully kept welcoming, laid back, and open. Every student is encouraged to ask questions and share thoughts without fear of judgment.
One of the most unique parts of the club is its focus on data-driven reflection. Instead of just watching presentations and forgetting the details, members fill out personalized notes templates that track their rankings, likes and dislikes, and major takeaways. By the end of the year, each student leaves with an archive of everything they’ve learned, something they can return to whenever they’re unsure about their next step.
Future Ready Club also hopes to bring in professionals from a variety of fields later this year, giving students the chance to ask real questions and learn from real experiences. While the club is new and still growing, the enthusiasm is already strong.
What makes FRC stand apart on campus is its purpose: most career-oriented clubs focus on students who already know what they want to pursue. But this club is designed especially for those who don’t. The students who are still exploring or unsure, and who need a place to figure things out without pressure.
Being part of the club has been transformative for its founder as well. Researching unfamiliar fields and presenting them to others has opened new doors, created new possibilities, and inspired a much more open-minded view of the future.
The club welcomes absolutely anyone, from the uncertain freshman to the senior still reconsidering their path. There’s no heavy workload, no expectations—just opportunities to learn, explore, and gain confidence about the future.
And while the club is only in its first year, the hope is simple: to help as many students as possible feel more ready for what comes next.
