Wakeland DECA excelled at the district competition on January 12, demonstrating strong performance across multiple events as well as sophomore Anya Sharma being announced the new District 7 President.
Over 250 students gathered at the Irving Convention Center to compete in different events against other FISD schools. They competed in fields such as marketing, finance, and hospitality and tourism. Out of 250 students, around 100 qualified for State competition, which will take place February 19-21 in Dallas.
These students have been preparing since the beginning of the school year for their written events and roleplays, with the help of their officers in each event. “I’m really proud of all of the students,” DECA officer Miisa Peltola said. “Their hard work paid off and I’m excited to see how far they’ll go.”
Additionally, Wakeland’s very own sophomore Anya Sharma was announced the new District 7 President, where she will lead thousands of students in the district. “I’m very excited to be able to represent our chapter at the District level, DECA is a great organization, and I’m very grateful to be given this opportunity,” Anya said. “We are constantly working to make our chapter more inclusive, and create an environment where members feel valued and supported.”
DECA has been a great source of inspiration for many students who want to explore their future career options. Although it specializes in business, students in every field can utilize DECA to improve communication skills, teamwork abilities, and hard work capabilities.
Wakeland had a great run at districts this year, let’s wish these students good luck at state!
