This week, members of Wakeland High School’s National Honor Society are showcasing their completed service projects, highlighting volunteer work with local organizations.
Students were asked to volunteer with a community organization and create a trifold display illustrating their experience. Over the past few weeks, members collaborated in groups to demonstrate how their efforts made a positive impact. The projects will be presented March 30–31 in the main hallway during lunch.
The displays feature a wide range of organizations that support area needs, including food assistance, animal shelters and children’s hospitals.
“We chose an organization called Feed My Starving Children,” junior Tavishi Dumpala said. “I loved packing food for children across the world—it really felt like I was making an impact in supporting other communities.”
The goal of the project is to give students hands-on experience with official volunteer groups while developing teamwork and leadership skills. Many students said the project helped them better understand the value of service and collaboration.
“The project taught me how to work with others while volunteering,” junior Marie Soukup said. “It also showed me how we can make a difference in our community together.”
Through these service initiatives, NHS members are demonstrating leadership, compassion and a commitment to community involvement. Students are encouraged to visit the displays during lunch to learn more about the organizations and how they can get involved.
