Passion, determination, and drive will be seen across this globe this winter season. Athletes will take the stage as they compete this winter at the Olympics in Milan, Italy. Every four years, athletes compete in sports such as skiing, figure skating, hockey, and many more. This year, the games are taking place from February 6-22.
“The most exciting sport to watch is bobsled.” Junior Heather McKosky said.
At the Milan Cortana Olympics, Olympic bobsled athletes Elena Meyers Taylor and Kaillie Humprey secured a gold and bronze medal for the US. Both athletes are mothers and secured medals despite the challenges that come along with motherhood.
“My favorite thing about the Olympics is seeing all the countries and cultures at the Olympics.” Hunter Christenson said.
Countries from all around the world come to compete at the Olympics, and this year, 93 countries are represented. This was shown at the opening ceremony this year as athletes from numerous countries entered the Olympics.
“I like watching everybody compete and achieve their goals at the Olympics.” Mia Weichbrodt said.
Athletes train their whole life to compete at the highest level. Most athletes start training at 6 years old and onward to become the best at their sport. So it makes it that much more special when athletes get to achieve goals they’ve had since they were little kids.
As the 2026 Winter Olympics come to an end, it’s been amazing to watch athletes achieve their dreams. Looking forward to seeing how these athletes progress at the next Olympics in 2030 in the French Alps.
