With one tournament left and no room for mistakes, the Wakeland Golf team stepped onto the course knowing every swing could define their season.
On March 23rd and 24th at The Tribute Golf Course, Wakeland faced Highland Park in a high stakes matchup, showing resilience and determination despite the outcome. Wakeland unfortunately as a team did not beat Highland Park and didn’t get through to the next round, yet Luke Colton and Maxton Brown qualified as individuals for regionals.
Congrats to our Wakeland boys!
“I shot 72-66 for a total of 138 and finished T3 in the district tournament at tribute golf club.” Maxton Brown said. “ I won the award of being all district and also I qualified individually to the next round which is the regional tournament on April 13th and 14th at Tanglewood country club.” Brown said.
Although Wakeland as a whole didn’t get through to the next round, the team all played their hardest and it came down to the last few holes. At the end of the day that’s all they could ask for.
“I shot 73 over 70 and 9 birdies for the tournament.” Jude Robbins said. “It’s sad it’s the last tournament, but it was a good final one that we played.” Robbins said.
Wakeland girls ended up finishing in 3rd place at this year’s District Tournament. Senior Nicole Nikolaytchev and sophomore Savannah Sparks qualified for Regionals as individuals.
Congrats to our Wakeland Girls!!
“I’d say that it was really bittersweet to be playing my last ever Districts.” Nicole Nkolaytchev said. “Walking up the 18th fairway for the last time made me emotional as I looked back on how much I have changed as a golfer and as a person these last four years. I couldn’t be more proud of how resilient, kind, and inspiring the girls on our team are this year. They fought hard, and I know I’ll be leaving Wakeland Golf in good hands when I graduate.” Nkolaytchev said.
Congratulations to both teams on an amazing season, and best of luck to Luke and Maxton at districts!
